What's your problem with "torde", it's a normal (if a bit antiquated) construction for marking slight uncertainty about what is being told? Also, it should of course be "hälften av" (or "af"). [sci.lang]

About "torde" in Swedish I'll ask my girlfriend. She has studied Swedish philology.

I have found an article about torde & borde, modal verbs in Swedish, which are mostly used in Preterit Konjuktiv and mean "as we think, maybe and so on.
It can be really something from our old common language.
